1. The primary responsibilities of the Graduate Thesis Quality Guidance Group are: to provide unified leadership over the entire quality management process for graduate theses within the school; to offer overarching guidance on thesis quality; to deliberate and approve relevant regulations and policies for this management process; and to coordinate solutions to key issues pertaining to the fundamental principles of thesis quality management.

2. Composition principles for the Graduate Thesis Quality Guidance Group of the School of Arts: The group shall be formed according to the discipline-specific enrollment ratios of the school; its chairperson shall be elected by the group and approved by the joint Party and administrative committee of the school; members shall be adjusted annually.

3. Working Procedures of the Graduate Thesis Quality Guidance Group at the School of Arts: All matters concerning the quality of graduate theses are decided through discussions by the guidance group. The group chair convenes meetings regularly, with fixed meeting dates in March, June, September, and December each year.

4. Main responsibilities of the Quality Guidance Group for Graduate Theses at the School of Arts:

(1) The Degree Thesis Quality Guidance Group of the School of Arts is fully responsible for reviewing the admission applications of master's and doctoral students. The group will establish admission review panels consisting of 3–5 members (by discipline) – with doctoral admission panels comprising at least three doctoral supervisors or professors – to evaluate applicants against the school's annual admission criteria. In accordance with the relevant regulations and the "Mid-term Assessment Measures for Doctoral Students at Southeast University," students who fail to participate in the mid-term assessment without valid reason will be expelled.

(4) Participation in the pre-defense of academic theses: After passing the plagiarism check, graduate students must submit three complete printed copies of their academic theses to the Academic Thesis Quality Guidance Group of the School of Arts. The group will form a pre-defense committee consisting of 3–5 members to conduct a formal defense of the submitted thesis, and the committee shall decide whether the thesis passes or fails. The decision requires approval by more than two-thirds (including two-thirds) of all committee members via secret ballot. Theses that fail must undergo revisions for at least four weeks before re-submission for pre-defense.

(5) Participation in the formal defense of the dissertation: The Dissertation Quality Guidance Group of the School of Arts regularly convenes a defense committee composed of 5–7 experts from both within and outside the institution to conduct a formal defense for dissertations that have passed the blind review, and the committee issues a resolution on whether the dissertation passes the defense. When deciding whether to approve the dissertation defense or confer the degree, the committee must obtain approval by a majority vote of at least two-thirds (including two-thirds) of all members.

After being signed by the chairperson of the defense committee, the resolution shall be submitted to the subcommittee. For papers that fail approval, the defense committee must issue a clear resolution regarding whether they should be revised and resubmitted within one year, which requires approval by a majority of all committee members. If the defense committee fails to act accordingly.

A resolution has been adopted to revise the thesis and conduct a new defense; no individual has the authority to modify the thesis or reorganize the defense.

5. The purpose of this working method is to ensure and enhance the quality of graduate dissertations at the college; in case of any discrepancies with previous documents, this method shall prevail.

6. The School of Art is responsible for interpreting this working method.
